Beyond the page

A garden is
never finished.

Ten years in the making, with much of the planting taking shape since 2019. My garden extends across two acres, with a creek marking its boundary.

More than a thousand plants grow here, spanning over three hundred types and varieties: flowers, herbs, evergreens, fruiting trees, vines, and plants that creep along the ground. Together, they offer food and refuge for wildlife.

This is a place to look closely. At a flower held in the hand. At mushrooms among the leaves. At what grows around the studio and beside the water.

Among the trees

Outside the dark studio, hostas gather beside the terrace and irises rise along the path. The garden reaches right up to the place where the work continues.

Room for other lives

Beside the water.

The pond measures about 25 by 30 feet and is almost four feet deep. It holds koi and plantings that include lotus, irises, and hyacinths, with hostas and many other plants around the water.

Beyond it, the garden continues to the creek. Across these two acres, flowers, foliage, fruit, and shelter make room for more than the person doing the planting.
